Product Of The Year Awards

Being invited to the Product Of The Year 2013 awards, which salutes some of the most loved brands across South Africa, was a privilege indeed.

Hosted by the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, and sponsored by Samsung, the event welcomed over 600 guests from all corners of the industry, to announce and celebrate the 48 brands – as voted for by consumers – that captured the hearts and minds of SA users.

Launched in 2008 in South Africa, and present in over 30 countries worldwide, POY is the world’s largest consumer-voted programme that identifies innovation in the consumer goods industry. Companies are invited to enter their products to be put under the critical spotlight of consumer opinion. Products entered must be less than 18 months old.

Over 200 products made the finalist roll, with winners being based on months of intensive and strategic research involving and surveying over 5 000 South African households nationwide. Research company AC Nielsen conducted the surveys, which identified winners from across a wide spectrum of companies, from personal care to household products, and more sophisticated devices and appliances.
