Characterised by a 3km stretch of coastline and a 320 hectare coastal forest, Blythedale is an absolute feast for the senses. For those looking for paradise, the most difficult choice is not so much whether they should build their dream home at Blythedale, but rather whether to build it at Blythedale Ocean, Blythedale Forest, Blythedale Golf, Blythedale Equestrian or Blythedale Hills.
The architecture planned for the resort is modern, spacious and natural, setting new trends through the simplistic use of technology and design principles. All the architects involved, which include Coote Clarkson Architects, LevEco, Mark Leslie- Smith and Pellegrini Architects, have risen to the occasion with each one’s signature style clearly emerging from their exquisite designs.
Throughout, the architects have strived to incorporate an integrated, holistic, sustainable, and most importantly, South African design philosophy with the aim of raising awareness around the value of eco-friendly and sustainable design and living. Keeping within the estate’s strict design guidelines, and incorporating simple and practical materials to reflect the environment in terms of texture and colour, the architects have created a harmonious balance with their environmentally friendly designs.
Blythedale Hills, the resort’s social housing component, consists of 1300 units and has been used as a blueprint for inclusionary housing by the National Department of Housing. This component will satisfy the demand for affordable housing in the area and create massive permanent employment opportunities. For residents, it will be the first time that many own the title deeds to their own homes. They will also have first preference for permanent jobs at the resort.
In addition to the breathtaking natural surroundings and exquisite architecture, residents can look forward to resort facilities such as an 18-hole golf course, a wellness centre, an equestrian centre, a sporting school of excellence and various beach nodes which incorporate restaurants, bars, barbeque and picnic areas, as well as numerous swimming pools. The estimated completion date of the resort is 2012.
