If there is one thing that we have learnt from 2020, it is that in the midst of trying times, South Africans know how to band together. In the spirit of spreading light and hope, SA Home Owner, together with the V&A Waterfront, brings you our Meet the Makers series where we share the stories of local brands behind the Waterfront’s Joy from Africa to the World festive décor showcase.

Meet Davis Ndungu, owner of RFFS Studio

Ndungu is an artist and designer who takes discarded flip flops and uses his ingenuity to upcycle them into various sculptures.

I became a designer as I believe that is the one thing that I am truly good at and am able to carve out a living from.

I am inspired by my environment and routine. Being in a routine allows me to take notice of the differences in everyday life that I can use as a resource for a range of new ideas.

South African design is undoubtedly world class.

My message to fellow South Africans is that sustainability is the future of the economy.

Future plans include to continue growing as a designer.
