Seating trends

From exposed wood to gold armrests, be inspired by these trends in chair design.

Past influence: While iconic chair styles, such as Le Corbusier’s Louis ghost chair and the Eames lounge chair, remain modern classics, chair designers are updating previous popular styles for today. Shapes are more rounded, colours are more subdued in pastel shades and comfort is key.

Going natural: Tied to the minimalist, Scandinavian aesthetic, the latest chair styles are uncomplicated and crafted from natural materials. Leather has made a comeback, and wood is a popular choice, not only for its clean aesthetic, but because of its durability, too.

Adding metal: Industrial chic has called for seating featuring a mix of materials, in particular warm metals. Think chairs made of copper, gold and bronze or added in the form of armrests or bases to designs. This trend also creates a luxury effect.

Being comfortable: Contributing to the home providing respite from a busy lifestyle, chairs are being designed with relaxation in mind. Fabrics are soft and inviting, shapes offer ergonomic support and cushions of comfortable down feathers and Unicurl.
