Centrally located along the Garden Route, this magnificent setting was chosen by its foreign owners above many awe-inspiring destinations, for the simple reason that, for them, it is perfect in every sense. The owners’ top priority was “to exploit to the full the magnificent, elevated location, with the emphasis on outdoor living”.
Ron Godfrey of Sedgefield Quality Homes, responsible for the construction of the house on dune sand, says this process requires thorough re-compaction of soil to ensure solid support. The architect specified the application of fibre cement cladding as an exterior finish to provide protection from wind and rain. The durable and attractive Everite product used here provides an aesthetically pleasing exterior facade in a grain finish, resembling timber.
The owners’ focus on outdoor living created a home that boasts generous outdoor entertainment and bathing areas. Large volumes of solid timber decking surround an impressive sand-toned rimflow swimming pool, blending in with the natural surroundings. When the pool is covered, the innovative Starline Roldeck automatic pool cover retains the heat when coastal winds blow, and also produces a neat-looking outdoor area. While sumptuous bedroom suites open onto the decks, allowing the great outdoors in.
The exquisite English country kitchen was designed to facilitate convenient entertainment, and leads directly through the lounge and dining areas onto the patio. The magnificent timber flooring provides warm floor surfaces, while complementing the interior ambience that is practical, yet elegant.
The design made allowance for an abundance of light entering all the living areas, and the westerly position invites beautiful views from most angles, particularly breathtaking sunsets. The owners say they just love their South African summer holiday home.
