Classic Modern

Self-expressionism

The owner of this stylish and modern home used her blank canvas to show off her artistic talents with a piece that is timeless.

Using architecture as her brush, the home was designed around a striking large window and spiral staircase that formed part of the grand entrance to the home. Enhancing this space is a wrought iron balustrade with soft flowing lines complemented by intricate design details.

“I wanted to create soft, spacious and peaceful interiors. Therefore, everything had to flow together but still have individual room character.” To achieve this look, soft and light colours were used while one choice of floor tile throughout the entire house unified the interiors. Continuing with this theme, all the bedrooms have the same colour carpet as well, only a shade darker than the tiles. Furniture in soft colours was carefully selected with statement colours coming through in curtains and trimmings.

In the kitchen, lily white was avoided, with the exception of the walls and CaesarStone cupboards, and a very soft bone colour was selected, as seen in the white island sand.

“I decided to use only granite, leather, glass and stainless steel/chrome to enhance the modern style,” explains the owner. The imaginative use of colour is also demonstrated in the exteriors that are painted in a darker bone colour contrasted by a darker shade called grey-beige which is a mixture of black, white, yellow and red.

“I think that our architect did exceptionally well with the information I gave him – I love our beautiful home and thoroughly enjoy living here,” concludes the home owner.
