Contemporary, elegant, eco-conscious and befitting a modern South African lifestyle – these are just some of the words that can be used to describe this dwelling. From its structural design and hard finishes through to the final personal touches – everything about this home establishes a visual impact for the home owners’ appreciation and understanding for design.

Located in an exclusive golf estate, the owners chose this particular site because of the picturesque views of the nearby golf course. The ingenious architectural style of the home makes maximum use of the surroundings and large expanses of glass including the frameless glass windows were installed to benefit not only from the views but to take advantage of the natural light as well.

The result – exteriors that ingeniously form part of the interiors, and it also feels as if the green golf course is part of the landscape of the home.

The contemporary-styled structure is U-shaped with the living areas one side, while the other side houses the guest quarters and study. Just like the exteriors, the interiors use clean, uncluttered lines. Enhancing the sophisticated style of home are the finishes. An example of the expertly crafted finishes is bulkheads that have been accentuated using subtle blue lights. Throughout the home lighting has been used creatively to illuminate the spaces and adds character and ambience to these areas. Another interesting touch is the use of wooden decking as seen around the sunken pool and deck area. This provides an organic and tranquil feel to this space where clean and uncluttered lines were used to carry the modern theme of the house.

The owners’ sophisticated sense of style is displayed in their choice of furniture and interior decoration. Each piece was carefully selected to carry the overall elegant look of the home – resulting in exquisite decor that complements the architecture and finishes.

A modern home is characterised by a harmonious merge between aesthetics and functionality and this residence goes further by reducing the family’s carbon footprint by harnessing the sun’s energy. Hot water is produced on demand by remotely located solar panels that have been discretely placed throughout the landscaped garden; the house also enjoys the use of a solar swimming pool heating system.

Louvres also provide sun control for the interiors resulting in further energy efficiency. With its contemporary architecture that offers comfortable and functional spaces, this home caters for the needs of a modern lifestyle.
