Living in South Africa, the home owners wanted their home to reflect some aspects of the beautiful country, and instructed the architect to make use of the land but include two or three steps into the design to add character to their home.
The residents, keen visitors to the Kruger National Park, ended up with a limited print of one of the old Big Tuskers: Mandleve – and also had the entrance door sandblasted with a picture of Mandleve himself (Mandleve is the Tsonga word for ears. As such, this elephant received its name due to the large horizontal v-shaped tear in its left ear).
After nearly 30 years of marriage the home owners decided to purchase nearly everything new. “A local supplier was recommended for purpose-made furniture and we were very happy with the company’s service and ability to understand what we wanted to achieve. Besides the fact that building for 14 months gives you more than sufficient time to shop, and visit lots of decor exhibits,” explain the residents.
