Taking on a build is a challenging experience, and one that perhaps only a few brave people will undertake in their lifetime. But it is also one of the most rewarding, particularly when you manage to create your dream home, the place where you feel most yourself and which is a true reflection of who you are as an individual or family.

The owners of this home managed to do just that by being involved in and driving every aspect of the design – from the architecture to the interiors. The result is a unique home that pulses with personality.

If beauty is in the detail, this home is a masterpiece of fine-tuned curation. From the driveway paving and the small underfoot water feature creating a tranquil welcome, to the coffee nook in the corner of the kitchen, it’s these considerations that make an already beautiful home a special one.

“We wanted to create a natural, sustainable and barn-themed contemporary living environment,” explains the home owner. One of the key considerations when choosing materials for the home was to create a space that would be low-maintenance and age gracefully.

This meant hard-wearing finishes such as steel, face brick and concrete. But far from being overly industrial, the home has an unpretentious appeal. “Natural light plays a significant role in not only allowing illumination of the interior, but also the most efficient natural use of heat transference across seasons,” notes the home owner.

The industrial feel is carried throughout the home with the use of black accents, such as the bespoke steel staircase, and modern features juxtaposed against old-world wooden items and rustic accents. High ceilings give a light and airy feel that connects the interior and exterior of the home seamlessly.

“The large glass facades and stackable glass doors enhance the interconnectivity of the inside with the outside, framing the serene environment of the garden,” says the home owner.
