Just over a decade ago the world was gripped by the design philosophy of Feng Sui. Originating in China, Feng Sui provides followers with a guideline of aesthetics that many people believe help improve their lives.

During the height of Feng Sui popularity, I read a book by Lillian Too, probably the most famous name associated with the practise. She speaks about the five types of chi (or life-forces), wood; fire; earth; metal and water, and how creating a balance between these elements and arranging your furniture and objects in your home according to a set of  principles will help to enhance the flow of chi and bring about positive energy in your home. She also provides many fun and interesting tips which include displaying a dragon image (a powerful symbol of good-luck) on the East side of your study, a three legged toad near the front door to attract money into your life, and peonies which are seen as auspicious flowers.

Proponents of this philosophy swear by its life-changing abilities and I also believe that by having a harmonious environment we can help create balanced and happy lives. Did you ever follow/do you follow Feng Sui? We’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic.
