This particular estate, situated in the eastern suburbs of Johannesburg, was selected by the owners not only for its security, but also for the abundance of trees and nature that it offers.
Being a major fan of wood and wooden products, the home owner ensured that an abundance of wooden material was used throughout the home. The exposed wooden rafters and general woodwork products such as rails, tables, cabinetry, floors and decking all lend themselves to the natural theme that was desired.
The home resembles a Balinese paradise. Although most of the furnishings were existing pieces that were selected and collected by the owners over the years, a lot of the final finishing touches were purchased from an upmarket interior design and decoration store. By choosing not to work with an interior designer, the owners were able to create spaces that were unique to them.
According to the owner, the home has a very balanced atmosphere as all of the rooms are accessible from the central double volume atrium, but at the same time the design also allows for a change of theme just by moving from one area to the next.
The variety of natural materials and products including the stone cladding, neutral colour palette, wooden products and fireplaces all come together to enhance the Bali theme whilst simultaneously ensuring cosy, warm and welcoming spaces.
This home also caters for an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. A major emphasis was placed on ecological provisions including solar powered heating as well as energy efficient products such as timers. These not only reduce the electricity costs for the owners but ensure that this home is sustainable and does not add to the energy problem the world is faced with.
With its perfect location, added ecological benefits, handsomely decorated spaces and natural and welcoming ambience, this timeless and gracious home truly emits a tranquil essence that soothes the soul and relaxes the mind and body.
