Treehotel

Written by Jess Binns

Inspired by a film called ‘The Tree Lover’, the Treehotel is the brainchild of a Swedish guesthouse owner who decided to extend the hospitality treatment into nature itself.

Surrounded by glorious views of the Lulea River valley, several leading Scandinavian architects were commissioned to design a tree house that would sit 4-6m above ground level. The outcome is a weird and wonderful combination of pods that greet you on arrival.

Sustainability and environmental factors played a crucial roll in the make up and services provided within each one, this however does not detract from the design. All interiors have a modern feel, with the very latest in eco finishes.

The combination of unspoilt nature with such luxury has to be an instant stress reliever. The individuality is clearly seen on approach as you enter this quiet part of Harads. Up in one corner of the forest you are greeted by a mirrored cube, cleverly reflecting the natural surroundings back at you. Another dwelling comes in the form of a UFO, playing out childhood dreams and fantasies. The statement red tree house known as ‘The Blue Cone’ has to be my favourite. The strength of the exterior is counter-balanced by the very understated, neutral interior.

This has just made an entry on my ‘bucket list’. A place for grown ups who never grow up!
