Warm it up

By Justine Olivier

Adding furniture to your kitchen may be the answer you need to spice up that room during the cooler season.

Wendy Grater, of Alpine German Kitchens, says: “Since the kitchen now has to fulfil more functions than it traditionally did and must look good, particularly if it is open to the surrounding areas, incorporating furniture elements serves both functional and aesthetic purposes.”

Another tasteful option for enhancing your kitchen during the dreary months would be to use personal art pieces, photos and other furniture. Adding accessories to your kitchen area can greatly spruce up the overall interior. Simple items such as napkins, towels or placemats in warm, complementary colours can considerably add a bit of spice to your kitchen area.

Chantelle Edwards, of SieMatic, suggests that the best way to boost your kitchen during the winter months would be through the creative use of colour – working with reds and oranges. This can be ingeniously introduced through bowls, vases, plates and the like.

Sergio Polita, of Snaidero Cucine, advises that, in order to prevent an overcrowded and cluttered look within your living environment, it is advisable to design your kitchen in such a way that it doesn’t reach the top, allowing room between the roof and cupboards, which not only creates a visually pleasing interior, but also ensures a clean and seamless flow of design.“Upfront planning is very important, as a kitchen is a fixture that can’t be changed or updated easily,” says Wendy.

Whatever you decide to add to your kitchen, be it furnishings or accessories, your kitchen will in no time get the makeover it needs to continue being the hub of the home this winter season.
