With all the fuss around getting the best use of your kitchen, it is no wonder that the kitchen industry has focused on advancing and simplifying the food preparation process as well as final wash up phase. “Addressing these simple yet diverse activities is key,” agrees Karen Robyn, general manager of Duravit South Africa. Many new home owners are focusing on convenience when looking at what to install in their kitchens.
Sinks and bowls
With space not being an issue anymore, most homes are opting for the inclusion of both of the two main styles of sinks available: a sink used for washing up and a sink used for the preparation and washing of food. Ashveer Jaganath, from SMEG South Africa says that a stainless steel twin inset sink is still the most common for washing dishes due to its durability. These offer convenience for both washing and rinsing.
Food preparation has never been easier with the addition of sink accessories. Fitted drying racks and glass or wooden chopping boards have been designed to perfectly fit the kitchen sink, drainer trays are great to handle messy food, while multifunction grids for preparation bowls offer the convenience to rinse vegetables and prepare them at the same time.
Waste disposal units are also a great addition for those big on entertaining and are installed under the kitchen sink.
Taps and mixers
This final addition can either make or break the use of your sink. Opt for simple yet stylish and effective mixers as most are per-installed with handy fittings. If you do have a prep bowl, a water filter is a great addition, not only for washing fruit and salad ingredients but also for when you or your children want a quick drink of water.
