With spring in full bloom, there’s nothing like getting your home ready for the party season. Here are five easy ways to add some colour and get rid of the winter blues.

Splash some paint: Adding a fresh coat of paint to any part of your home will reinvent an old space easily. Anne Roselt, Plascon’s colour manager, advises that you should look at colours that bring harmony and balance into your home. She advises that home owners should look into soft pastel shades, with a touch of metallic, which adds a bit of sparkle and optimism.

Spring clean: Give your home a good spring clean, by cleaning out the clutter and storing things you won’t use in summer. By doing this, you will create more space. Don’t forget to make sure your carpets, rugs and floors get a good clean, as well as your windows, curtains, the fridge and freezer.

Accessorise: A fun and easy way to add colour, is through accessorising with fabrics, scatters, and some decor pieces. The secret is to play with textures and different hues. Gail Butler, the managing director from Halogen International adds: “Stripes, florals, ornate geometrics, mind bending swirls and spots have made a huge comeback for the season.” The tip is to clash, so whether it’s a pastel coloured couch with metallic embellished scatters, the trend is to have fun.

Spring has sprung: So, why not put an arrangement together of your latest finds from your garden. Add a few houseplants – this instantly lifts the mood of the home and makes it an inviting space.

Take it outside: With your garden being an extension of your home, a smooth transition space is the outdoor entertainment area. Whether you opt for a full-house entertaining area or just a lounging space, kitting out this area is important. Chris Weylandts, the CEO of Weylandts Homestore, explains: “Comfort and design must be kept in mind when choosing outdoor furniture.” He adds: “It’s important that outdoor areas flow from the interior and reflect the owner’s tastes, and are an expression of their lifestyle. It’s also important that the furniture takes cognisance of the architecture so as to create a harmonious environment.”
