Joanna Laajisto

Written by Jess Binns

It’s obvious when you cast your eye over Joanna Laajisto’s work that you are dealing with a professional in her field. Intelligence oozes from project to project, displaying her signature look of what I class as ‘Scandinavian Smart’.

Known as an ‘interior architect’ Joanna really can wear this badge with pride and validity. To be able to call yourself one you need to be display your knowledge of architecture and utilise your talent to blend the two for a cohesive win.

Having honed her skills in LA, Joanna returned to her native Finnish roots to create more of her magic. Based in Helsinki, Joanna and her team are currently building a wondrous portfolio of commercial and domestic projects, reflecting an elite quality of interior architecture within this European realm.

Story Restaurant, which recently opened its doors in the very heart of Helskini’s historic quarter, has to be one of Joanna’s greatest accolades to date. I praise the addition of colour, which happily sits beside the very natural textures she has implemented. The Laajisto studio had a stunning historical building to work with – if you look closely and you will see the links from building to interior such as height of cabinetry and direction of seating across the harbour.

Joanna believes in finding the beauty of each space and to enhance with creative solutions. A great insight into a great mind.

Best wishes,
