Spring weekend projects

Spring is finally here. It’s time to venture outside and soak up the wonderful sights and smells that come with the change of season. However, is your garden still reminiscent of colder times, when it was better to stay warm indoors, rather than work in the yard?

Not to worry. Here are a few projects to get your garden into the swing of spring. The best part is that these projects can be tackled in a weekend.

Neaten up

One tends to let the yard get a bit neglected in winter. You don’t need a serious landscaping crew to make your garden presentable. Just taking care of a few simple maintenance jobs will make a huge difference. Show some love by pulling weeds, cleaning the pool, cutting the grass, and clearing debris. Check the outdoor furniture for anything that is worn or could do with a fresh coat of paint.

Spring blooms

If you really want to make full use of spring, then it’s time to do some planting. Go to your local nursery to see what spring flowers are available. Nothing says spring more than walking out the door to be greeted by vibrant colours and smells.

Safety first

Make sure that your existing outside area is safe for family and guests, especially if you have children. If you haven’t been spending much time in the yard, you can’t be too sure what state it’s in. Check that your decking, fencing, pools and furniture are all still safe for use, and if not, perform repairs or replace as needed.

Make the kids happy

If you have children, they’ve probably been spending a lot of time cooped up indoors. Now that it’s spring, encourage them to go outside and play. You can really spoil them and give them many hours of healthy fun in the sun, in the form of swings, trampolines or jungle gyms. You can get a DIY kit from many places, and if you already have one, maybe make additions. As always, also check that the equipment is in proper working condition.

Now that it’s getting warmer, you want your family and friends to enjoy being outside and getting the sun they need. With these few weekend projects, your outdoor areas will soon be ready to be fully enjoyed.
