Give your empty walls a makeover with these inspired ideas and watch them come to life!

Create a customised wallpaper collage using family photos. If you have a colour wall, opt for black-and-white images.

Hang square frames close together in a grid-like pattern behind a bed to double as a headboard.

Decorate a dining-room wall with a mix of vintage plates. Or give old serving trays new life as unique pieces of repurposed art.

A grouping of mirrors in various shapes and sizes not only breaks the monotony of a blank wall, it also makes a space appear bigger.

Fill a wall with eye-catching, oversized clocks.

Frame chalkboards or install corkboards for messages, reminders and important dates (handy in kitchens, playrooms and home offices).

Remove the covers from worn books and hang them in frames for a bit of literary wall art. You can also scan the covers and print them onto photo paper. Consider colourful storybooks for a child’s bedroom.

Hang floating shelves at varied heights and fill them with a collection of framed pictures and other knick-knacks. Paint the shelves in a contrasting colour to make them really stand out.

Play with variations on a single theme. Pick a subject or motif you love (birds, hearts, roses, etc) and repeat it in a collection of prints, paintings, needlework, and more.

Wall-mounted candleholders add light and warmth. Hang them in clusters, individually, or let them flank other items on the wall. Ornamental sconces work well, too.

The typography trend is very popular. Use letters of various sizes, materials and colours to create interesting combinations. Add a focal point and help balance smaller pieces by using one striking large letter.

Frame your children’s artwork in traditional gallery-inspired frames to make them feel special.

TIP! Trace items you plan to hang onto paper. Cut out the shapes and tape to the wall in different arrangements until you get the perfect combination.
