41 Birmingham

Written by Jess Binns

Alexandria is a district in Sydney known for its historical, industrial roots. Fast becoming a popular destination due to stunning cityscape views, new and exciting developments are appearing that are pushing the boundaries of contemporary design.

One such residential project reaching completion is 41 Birmingham. Consisting of 23 designer apartments, as well as retail space on street level, this bold and daring block takes its inspiration from past industrial influences.

The team behind the build are development company Rubicon Property, and architectural and interior practice SJB. The desire was to respond to the built environment positively, creating a statement that passers-by see as “unique” and “special”.

I find 41 Birmingham very appealing from the exterior. It makes you want to see what’s hiding behind the recessed, concrete balconies. I like the mix of pale concrete, sharp black balustrading and high-gloss sea-blue tiles.

The apartments themselves are striking, with unusual detailing, such as beamed ceilings. Styled by SJB to outshine the competition, they’ve gone for more of a conceptual look, rather than your everyday set apartment finish. I think it gives 41 Birmingham an edge, which will appeal to your typical design-conscious couple, which, let’s face it, Sydney must have an abundance of!

Best wishes,
