Spacious, open-plan living spaces, double volume areas and inviting interiors – these were the aspects that attracted the owners to this house, inspiring them to make it their ideal home. It was also important to them that this dwelling had sufficient room to add on a fully-functional home office.

Besides transforming the domestic quarters into an office, the only other major alterations included adding a contemporary bar area and a make-over of the garden. The landscaping is minimalistic in its appeal and reminiscent of a zen-like space. As a couple that enjoys entertaining and spending a lot of time outside, these changes increased the functionality of the home, suiting the lifestyle of these owners perfectly.

The interiors of the home exude a homely and relaxed atmosphere that brilliantly displays the owners’ sophisticated sense of style. The furniture selection is a combination of contemporary and more classical pieces, creating spaces that are not only inviting but timeless. The colour palette consists of earthy hues such as varying shades of brown, white and cream – an excellent touch that contributes to the calming effect of the interiors.

The owner explains that each room has its own unique theme or style. She created the different looks by choosing one central piece and innovatively working around that. A good example of this is seen in the lounge.

This area centres on a large, bold, contemporary art piece, and the rest of decor was kept muted and simple, allowing the artwork to be the focal point. The owner also adds that she likes the wallpaper in this area as it adds a feminine touch to the space. The lounge is the focal point of the house and flows seamlessly into the office as well as the outdoor entertainment area.

The new bar area is another good example of the owners’ sophisticated style. This contemporary entertainment space has been designed to be a focal feature in its own right.

The stone countertops are enhanced by the leather bar stools, giving this area a warm and inviting look. Nature-inspired artworks offset the ultra-modern light-fitting to show off a space that is balanced in its differences.

Colour has been injected into the kitchen by means of a bright splashback, with the end result being a culinary masterpiece that is a work of art. The main bathroom is a haven for relaxation with its subdued colour palette and natural stone cladding that adds an organic feel. Everything in this home comes together to form spaces that are relaxed and inviting.
