Build it green - part 18

Build it green - part 18Build it green - part 18The last week on site has been a hive of activity as our window frames have finally arrived! The rooms actually feel like living areas now, and the aluminium frames look fantastic.

The frames sit flush with the outside walls, and only a sill on the inside.  This makes the house look a bit stark on the exterior. I hope the cladding will add a bit of texture and “break” from the very flat façade. We opted to go for safety glass for its added insulation. Double glazing would have been the best, but it is much more expensive.

Unfortunately our doors haven’t arrived yet, so the whole house has been boarded up for the Christmas break. It looks horrible with MgO boards over all the door frames.

The covered eaves look fantastic, but there are still a few problems with the roof (not enough sheets to complete the patio), so the house isn’t quite water tight yet.

All the screeding on the floors is now complete, and the electrics are almost done, but the electrician stalled a bit, not wanting electrical fittings to be exposed over the holidays.

We look forward to the finishings in the new year. Personally, I can’t wait to see the kitchen, but I guess that is a woman thing!

May I take this opportunity to wish you a very blessed, safe Christmas. Until next year
