Growing up I always enjoyed watching my grandmother getting ready in the morning. She had a big, beautiful dressing table that had a huge mirror and lots of drawers for storing her makeup, jewellery and perfumes. I loved how glamorous her dressing table made her daily beauty routine. Her dressing table gave her a space where she could spend some quality time priming herself for the day ahead and unwinding before going to bed.

Now that I’ve moved into a home of my own, getting a dressing table is at the top of my must-have list. That’s why I’ve done some research into what to look out for when buying and styling a dressing table.

If you have a large jewellery, perfume or makeup collection, consider buying a dressing table with large drawers. This will help you prevent clutter while creating a fabulous focal point.

If you don’t have much space in your bedroom look for a dressing table that can double up as a bedside table.

If you’re struggling to find the perfect vanity or are on a tight budget, put a small desk in front of a huge leaning mirror for an instant vanity.

When creating a custom-made dressing table, make sure that your sitting area is at desk height.

Take advantage of the space on your dressing table by creating artful displays. You can do this by organising your prettiest jewellery and hair accessories on a small gold or silver tray, or by putting them in ceramic or glass vases.

If you have a walk-in closet, consider carving out a space for your dressing table in there. All you need to do is find a corner for a small table, chair and lamp.

Style your dressing table by adding some personal touches like framed pictures, scented candles or a few  ornaments you love.
