Eclectic Featured Homes

Global flair

Hovering above the magnificent Clifton Beach strip, this home is as worldly as the family that lives in it. The front door leads into an atrium area with floating glass steps, setting the scene for an interior space with an ethereal feel.

In the main living area, a central floating island juts out to create a very modern, open-plan feature kitchen. A lounge and outside deck area blend together seamlessly, as the warm fire inside melts into the fresh sea air.

One level down, the master bedroom features an outside garden cove, and a sunken bath area that has a breathtaking view and overlooks the glass-encased pool. Each of the five en-suite bedrooms opens out onto the pool.

The next split-level down serves as an office and relaxation area – usually paradoxical, but perfectly balanced in this home. From computers and Nguni carpets to a massage table, it is the perfect room for escapism. There’s a magical outdoor cove here too; greenery and the sound of water are a central theme that add to the relaxed atmosphere of the property.

This home is an entertainer’s dream, and the distinctive flow between rooms makes it feel warm, despite its size. Although it’s set back from the beach, clever design and the use of glass balustrades fully optimise the world-renowned view below.

The couple’s brief to the interior designer and architect was to create something that feels as if “it has been lived in for years”, and although it’s unique in its originality and diverse features, it’s clear that a family lives here.

The warmth is evident; each room tells a story. For a family that has previously lived in Spain, this house is a visual portrayal of their travels, with eclectic treasure pieces and collectables from all parts of the world – Spain, India, Bali – forming statement furnishings throughout the home.

This family loves the beach and the outdoor lifestyle Cape Town provides. The owner suggests that his wife’s two favourite things in life are the beach and sunsets, so when it was time to move home, the location was a “no-brainer”. The renovations took them three years, but they say that if they were to do it over, they wouldn’t change a thing – this is the perfect house to come home to, and that’s exactly what they did.
