The home of Alex Lerner

Written by Jess Binns

High profile clients tend to bring high-maintenance requests when it comes to the design of their homes. From what I hear, Brazilian TV host and entrepreneur, Alex Lerner is one such individual who falls into this bracket.

Having spent over a year looking for an apartment in Rio de Janeiro, Lerner reached the conclusion that in order to achieve all his requirements he would have to build his dream home from scratch.

A well-known modernist architect, Arthur Casas, from Rio and New York, rose to the challenge. The brief was to design a home that had a large pool, an outstanding view and most importantly, a home that could be kept ultra clean (Lerner has a total of four vacuums!).

Together, they found a plot of land that lorded over the iconic views of Rio, the design that Lerner was very instrumental in, had to consist of stone, glass and wood. The result is a clean and unfussy, linear construction. The vast expanse of the rustic stone is balanced by the glazing, opening out each room to the glorious views. Cleverly, Casas positioned the main living areas on the first floor where the sea view really comes into its own.

This really is perfection, the one quality Alex strived for from day one.
