Hygge & West

Written by Jess Binns

I’m always super interested in the whys and hows behind start up companies in the design, retail and decor industries. Being part of this crowd, I know the leap of faith you take to invest in making your dreams a reality. Not always, but usually there is a certain amount of necessity behind that ‘leap’…

For Christiana and Aimee, two friends since childhood, the birth of Hygge & West was kick-started by a lack of distribution of one of their favourite European decor stores; Ferm Living. This spurred the two to launch Hygge & West as a main US distributor for Ferm wallpaper. This led to collaborations with artists and designers to produce various ranges of wallpapers that now fall under the Hygge & West brand.

Hygge is a Danish word, which means ‘cosy’, a term they stumbled on whilst trying to establish their name. It simply, yet profoundly, captures what both ladies wished to achieve in their own lives.

Being a bit of a wallpaper obsessive, I’m in love with their latest collab with stationery guru, Rifle Paper Co. Think tropical pineapple prints, and sunshine florals hugging the walls and placing a smile on your face! They even dabble in removable wallpaper tiles, something you may or may not have heard of before. Great if you are a decor nut, but rent a place where the walls must be left in pristine condition.

Another plus point is that Hygge & West offer worldwide shipping! Check out their full range here.

Best wishes,

Jess from Hector & Bailey.
