This beautiful home takes the shape of an interesting and innovative edifice, using square structural components to make it as attractive on the outside as it is on the inside. Designed by Chris Pattichides of Pattichides and Partners, the architectural aspects of this double-storey home employ a square-like geometric design, lending itself to a natural theme.

“It was a tight piece of land, and we did not want to create a definition between interior and exterior,” explains Chris.

Doors that open up and an abundance of windows also enhance the desired effect that was required. “It’s a raw minimum structure,” Chris says, adding that “a typical less-is-more architectural language was used”. Because of the liberal use of glass, and the colour schemes, a focus on light and space was also achieved.

The house uses decor and design that is crisp and minimalistic, with beige and cream accenting the softness of it. Soft furnishings were used liberally, such as the striking curtains, and scatter cushions, where the neutral palette comes through. But the bold use of wood in areas such as the kitchen, bathrooms and bedroom closets create a strong offset against the lightness.

Interior designer, Esley Georgiou of Effective Finishes says: “This is not a decorated house.” Based on the residents’ original specifications, she was asked to bring in many items of furniture from their previous house, and make sure that the place retained functionality rather than a focus on decoration. In fact, since the structure of the home is so astonishing, the residents decided to rather let the architecture be the focal point, treating the interior decor with a more minimalistic approach.

Tackling the decor in this regard, the owners ensured that clutter was avoided completely.

According to Esley, the owners leaned towards a contemporary style, while still retaining their old items of furniture. Pot plants and vases of flowers are scattered thoughtfully around the house, enhancing a sense of freshness that has already been established by the clean, white, crisp feel of the home. This gorgeous home proves that minimalism has never been so abundant.
