This large property consists of two houses that have been cleverly stitched together to create a grand coastal home. Situated on an end plot in the prestigious Zimbali Estate, just north of Durban, this sprawling home gently tiers down the sloping site, creating terraces with magnificent views and fabulous areas in which to entertain.

Striving for a clean, sophisticated palette, the owners worked with their design team to create a feast of pared-back elegance. On the floor, oversized slabs of Caesarstone greet you in fresh white, darting reflections of light from one space to another. “We were one of the first to try Caesarstone on the floor, and I can happily say it did not disappoint,” the owners say.

Upstairs, engineered oak planks provide warmth and texture, complementing the understated neutral tones of the bedrooms. Gigantic corner couches in both lounge areas are perfect for relaxed evenings in front of the TV. Large-scale angled floor lamps bring structure to the softer zones, and create an intimate ambience.

Entertaining plays a large role in this family’s life, so it comes as no surprise to find a 17-seater table on the outdoor terrace on the first floor. “We also converted one of the four garages into a games room for the kids,” they add.

Heading down to the pool area, vignettes of seating are dotted inside the poolhouse and out. Here you are blessed with 360˚ views, thanks to the wall of mirrors reflecting back the best of the Indian Ocean. The solid bar top and shelving are made of onyx, a medium in striking contrast to the white marble-lined pool outside – and a statement of luxury that echoes throughout the home.
