Decorating a room from scratch is no easy feat. You want it to be striking and bold, functional and stylish, and to reflect your personality. One of the best ways to begin is by using a bold, attention-grabbing piece of furniture as inspiration. A piece you adore and that speaks volumes about your character.
Choose a fabulous couch, chair or even rug and work with its colour palette. Two or three colours from your chosen piece can serve as inspiration for the basic colour palette of the room (walls, large pieces of furniture etc.) while the other brighter colours can inspire accessories and smaller items (stools, side tables etc).
Experiment with textures and patterns. Think wood, glass, perspex… this brings texture and variety to an otherwise lacklustre room. Scatter cushions of assorted patterns and sizes jazz-up a neutral couch and eclectic, mismatched ornaments draw attention to floating shelves.
Remember that your home is a work in progress, experiment and have fun!
