It is always inspiring to see a home that blends harmoniously with its surroundings. This dwelling is a fine example of architecture that responds to its climate and environment. The beauty of the structure lies in its simplicity that has been enhanced by natural finishes.

The outcome is a building that does not intrude on nature but pays homage to the great outdoors.

Built on a prestigious equestrian estate in Gauteng, this contemporary barn-inspired home offers its residents a country lifestyle with the convenience of being close to the city. The natural look and feel of the home was successfully achieved by organic elements that reflect the South African landscape.

A good example of this can be seen in the exteriors where the use of stone cladding on the some of the walls and exposed brick paving gives the home an authentic look. Immaculate attention to detail accentuates the barn-style home with the use of trusses, large white doors reminiscent of a barn, modern farm-style doors and wooden floors.

Adding to the residents’ lifestyle is the way nature is brought into the interiors with the use of large windows and glass sliding doors that lead to the outdoors.

The interior decoration reflects the simple elegance of the exteriors. The owners’ impeccable taste is demonstrated in the selection of furniture, artwork and accessories. The rich wooden floors contrast marvelously with the white walls, while colour is injected through soft furnishing. The furniture is an eclectic mix, where old meets new to create spaces that are both warm and inviting.

The relaxed feeling of the interiors is achieved by a careful selection of pieces, their arrangement and their uncluttered style.

This combination of features adds warmth and depth to the design of the home.

Living here also provides these home owners with security as well as vast stretches of landscaped grounds that showcase numerous water features, which undoubtedly add to the tranquil atmosphere.
