Overcoming all obstacles

Written by admin

In the latest issue of SA Home Owner, one of the stunning homes we feature, Successful interchange, has a remarkable background story. Developed by Mark Dane, who was born with cerebral palsy, the home is a reflection and a testament to Mark’s dogged determination to achieve his dreams and the attendant satisfaction it brings in spite of all the “nay-sayers” that told him it can’t be done.

As a result of cerebral palsy, Mark has lived with a speech and a physiological co-ordination challenge all his life. He is however a highly functioning individual, despite the physical disability that wakes up with him every morning.

His response to these challenges is what sets Mark above the crowd. He has refused to accept the hindrances quietly and dutifully, but rebelliously moves on with a purposeful plan to live his calling in this world – with no short cuts and no coppers to aspire to….  gold is his goal!

His personal mantra – “there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome. His sense of humor and his ability to laugh at himself and his challenges is one of his most captivating strengths.

One of Mark’s passionate hobbies is building new homes. He finds virgin sites in new developments that speak to his heart and then he’s off to the computer where he develops the concept of “the home”. His ideas and plans are taken to his architect for interpretation in terms of architectural license, structure rules and so forth, and the work begins. Mark’s dream unfolds over months into bricks and mortar and into the vision that Mark birthed on the computer all those months ago.

A bit about the house

His Simbithi house has been a labour of love together with Mark’s partner, Lawrence – from conception, design, build and finish into what is seen today, and tells a story that resonates – “there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome”!

It is a magnificent contemporary masterpiece designed by Hans Coetzee and built with attention to detail, with one of the finest views resulting in one of the most luxurious homes available in Simbithi Eco Estate.

The home has been well designed with the wind factor in mind, so entertaining even on the windiest day is possible is still a breeze. Additional features include a movie theatre room or a fifth bedroom, separate laundry room, second family room or study. The master suite has sea views and elevated Simbithi views with a walk-in main shower and bath and a spacious double vanity with expansive mirrors in the dressing area.

The luxuriously carpeted main bedroom leads onto a lovely covered balcony to appreciate the views and take in the eco wonders of the estate including the forests, dams and rolling greens of the golf course. Six hundred square meters of architectural living showcases ultra modern living and discerning taste and is perfectly suited for the sophisticated buyer who appreciates attention to detail.
