Return to retro

Written by Jess Binns

The quality of boutique hotels around the world just seems to be getting better and better. Competition maybe? Or is it purely down to a demand for superior style, comfort and service on our leisure and business breaks these days? Whatever the reason, I find the level of interior design consistently high, with new and unique takes – gone are the days of bland finishes and rough textures.

One hotel that caught my eye is Casa Fayette, housed in a 1940s Art Deco mansion block in Mexico’s Guadalajara. Hotel group Grupo Habita enlisted the services of local architects Estudio 5 and Milan-based interior company Dimore Studio to create “a return to retro”. The results exceed expectations, with bold and opulent finishes, intermingled with striking colour combinations and metallic finishes.

Sensitive in their approach, both architect and designer took reference from the building. For example, in the bedrooms you witness glass screens in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The bar area is glossy and dark, with soft curves reminiscent of the era.

Located within the Lafayette district, an area known for its mix of global and creative residents, Casa Fayette is fast becoming the place to be seen.

Best wishes,
