Textile designer Imogen Heath

Written by Jess Binns

As we ease ourselves into the New Year, interior inspirations should all be about fresh, bold and bright design to awaken our senses and bring a spring to our step! We live in such exciting times, where young designers are emerging worldwide to bring such wonders to our fingertips. Take Imogen Heath for example…

Imogen is a UK textile designer, who I discovered last year when I came across an article on her cushions. Discovering her work is like an enormous breath of fresh air. The patterns and colour combinations are so cleverly placed that even the most neutral-loving individual would be hard pushed to not be impressed.

Embracing the very latest in textile technology, Imogen creates her patterns through a blend of digital and traditional artistry, which makes for a very unique look. All fabrics are printed within the UK, either by hand at her studio or in British mills – again a great attribute to have.

Establishing herself in 2011, Imogen sought out a niche for her work, which now graces top stores such as Liberty and Heals as well as selling online from her website www.imogenheath.com.

“My design process is all about retaining the same feeling of excitement and joy that comes to me when I have an idea for a pattern, or when I draw something for the first time. I hope that by successfully taking these feelings through to the finished piece I can somehow bring that same delight into people’s surroundings.”

I think you’ll agree that the story behind her designs is a wonderfully positive one, and one that we can all enjoy.

Best wishes, Jess from Hector and Bailey
