The Slow

Written by Jess Binns

Located in the Canguu region of Bali, The Slow is the latest hot property on the tourist trail. Not just a hotel, The Slow, which is set on the coast of Batu Bolong, offers all-day dining and drinks, boutique retail space and a chance to view the owners’ avant-garde art collection.

Owned and built by designer George Garrow and his model wife Cisco Tschurtschenthaler, it first began as a project to build a dream home, but fast became a place for all the “cool kids” to hang out, when Canguu saw an influx of holiday-makers looking for the ultimate in chic beach living.

Taking inspiration from the tropical surroundings, the building is a showcase for minimal design, intermingled with greenery, the warmth of local timber and contemporary art. You could refer to it as “tropical brutalism”.

The bedrooms have just the right amount of cosy to offset the harder material elements that are the bones of the structure. Some of the rooms have their own private plunge pool, creating a little jungle oasis right at your back door.

For the owners it’s imperative that their guests stop and relax here. It’s a place where you can rest, regroup and reconnect.

Best wishes,

Jess from Hector and Bailey
