When embarking on the journey to build their dream home, the owners of this residence had a very clear idea of the type of house that they wanted. They wanted an “interesting house” – not a generic box, but rather a home with interesting and unique design elements.

By commissioning JLA Architects to work on the design of their home, the end result was nothing short of breathtaking. Practical, beautiful and flexible are just some words that can be used to describe this home, which has been designed in such a way that it offers the owners a place in which to reside for many years
to come.

With an appreciation for and love of both the traditional and modern elements, the owners have ensured that their home resonates with these themes – to accommodate the modern element, an ample amount of glass was brought into the design of the home; and in order to bring the traditional elements into the design, a tin roof and exposed roof trusses were used.

“We are very pleased with the way the architect managed to combine these styles in a cohesive way. We feel we have a fairly modern house but it still feels warm and welcoming,” explain the owners. When it comes to selecting a favourite room in the home, the owner says that it is quite difficult to choose one room in particular.

“I love my kitchen, especially eating breakfast there on a Sunday morning. I also love the view of my trees from my study, and my bedroom always feels relaxing, warm and light. And every time I walk into the cellar, I smile.”
